Musings on Hypnosis

It’s interesting to know that all of us are constantly moving in and out of hypnosis and that we have become so accustomed to this state that we accept it without awareness. Our subconscious mind does not know the difference between reality and “perceived” reality. Consequently, we react to action movies by tensing our muscles in preparation for either fight or flight or we become emotional and even cry when we watch a sad movie.

Our minds and bodies are closely connected to the extend that the mind overrides the body. Consider the football player who is so focused on the game that he is completely unaware of having a broken ankle and plays on until the game is finished. Or consider the hungry man who literally starts to salivate just by thinking about the terrific dinner he will eat as soon as he gets home.

The same is true in many other situations, we get what we expect. If we sit down in the dentist’s chair fully convinced that we want to be there and that we will be free of discomfort and pain during the procedures, we will absolutely have a pleasant experience.

It is because the mind controls the body that we are able to use HypnoBirthing, self-hypnosis for a comfortable childbirth, and HypnoFertility to overcome “unexplained” infertility.

I have been seeing a hypnotherapist for several years now and have found it to be the best way to deal with a lot of my problems.
Hypnosis is a way in which to learn more about yourself. When I was young I had found it easier to put up walls within my memory so that I could not feel hurt by things around me. Useing hypnosis has helped me to remember my past and get to know who I am without fear of pain. I have been able to get rid of these walls and like the person that I am.

Wonderful that you have such a positive experience with hypnosis. Hypnosis is an excellent tool that can reach where nothing else can go. You are able to reexperience your past and eliminate toxic hindrances to positive growth and development. Hypnosis also helps to build strong self esteem and to create wonderful tools for living.

My favorite part of hypnosis is regression. I have been able to go back as far as conception. Before that happened I had read about it being possible but didn’t believe in it. It was a wonderful experience. It truly is amazing how our brain works.

BIllie, you are correct we have wonderful brains. A skilled hypnotherapist can assist you to reach your goals for the future by accessing the past. We are able to use hypnosis to go back and experience and re-evaluate past experiences. In doing so you can determine if you want to keep the belief you learned at a certain time or if you want to replace it with a new and more useful belief.
I offer hypnotherapy to anybody who is interested.

As a woman’s health advocate I believe we need to connect body and mind. Stella is a powerful healer and a vehicle to achieve this goal. I highly recommend her services.

Renee Rubinstein is an MD and she is a Women’s Health Advocate. She lives and practices in Santa Monica. Renee’s dream is to open a center devoted to women’s health including natural birthing.

The one thing I have learn is that hypnosis is an neverending experience. In some ways it is even better than traveling to far away places. The experience you can get from a good therapist is something you can remember for a life time.
This past week my terapist worked on deep relaxation. She put me in a state of deep relaxation which not only made me feel very good it highten my awareness of the world around me. As I was going into relaxation she reminded me that I would come back and remember the feeling I experienced, this was very helpful because when the relaxation is so deep and feels so good you feel as if you could stay there forever. During the session she did things such as moving my arm around and putting it in different positions such as pointing staight up from the elbow. My arm stayed in that position until it was moved back down to my side. Another thing I was aware of was the sounds around me. There was a ceiling fan in the room that was on, as I went deeper I could hear a noise the fan was making other than just the blades going around. The deeper I went the louder this sound became and when I came out of trace the sounds was almost gone you had to really pay attention to notice that the sound was even there.
The therapist even checked my threshold for pain at this time by pinching my arm, which I did not feel. All I felt was a small amount of pressure in the spot she touched.

The above describes a state of hypnosis called hypnotic coma. A subject in hypnotic coma can hear and feel everything in the environment just like with any hypnosis. In fact awareness, as Billie describes it, is greatly increased. One of the benefits of hypnotic trance is that it feels tremendously wonderful which inspired Stella to remind Billie that she would have to come back. Another benefit is, that this level of hypnosis can be used for anesthesia.
