A Sweet Little Birth Story from 95 Years Ago

Hi Stella,

I interview people who live in my neighborhood for our local newsletter.  My column is called “Getting to Know You”.  This week I interviewed a gentleman who is going to be 100 years old next Aug.  He told me that at age 5, he was present when his brother was born.  His mother had been in labor for a short while & his dad had called the doctor.  The doctor came & was at the house with the mom (with, being in the same sense as a midwife) and was just kind of keeping her company.  Mom was  pretty comfortable and went out on her screened porch to sit in her rocker.  The 5 year old boy was playing on the floor.  Suddenly the baby was being born and the mom needed no help to have her birth.  The doctor had done nothing & as the boy said, “we didn’t know when she was going to have the baby, so she just had it right then and there”.  The boy was shooed out of the room for a few minutes and then he said it was very exciting to see his mom holding his baby brother in her arms when they said he could come back in.  This birth happened in an uninterrupted time frame and occurred safely and beautifully on its own.

The above birth story is beautiful in its simplicity and it is a testimony to the truth behind HypnoBirthing®.  The mother gave birth to her child free of interference from the doctor who had the remarkable insight to leave well enough alone.  Once again we learn that doing NOTHING is the best possible policy when in labor. Birth happens when the baby is ready and the mother’s body responds beautifully to the prompts given by the baby.

Thank you Carol for sharing this gem.  Stella

I’m glad you liked my little story enough to place it in your blog Stella. To me it was the epitome of simplicity and beauty. Isn’t it lovely when we allow the time for birth to occur in it’s own way? The man who told me this story was beaming as he recalled that very special memory from his childhood ninety-five years ago.
Everyone who has a baby deserves a birth like this and memories like this. Imagine having something like this to look back upon with joy and happiness after almost a century has passed. To him, it was as if he was telling me something that happened yesterday; it was so fresh in his mind. What a joyous impression to carry through your whole life. What a lucky man….
