Hypnosis

Q. What if I can’t be hypnotized?

A. Everybody can be hypnotized as all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. Hypnosis is a matter of trust and cooperation between the practitioner and the subject. To achieve a state of hypnosis, very few requirements are necessary: you have to be intelligent, you have to be willing to concentrate and you have to be willing to follow directions.

Just like everything else we do practice makes perfect. The goal is to practice relaxation and hypnosis until it becomes a conditioned response given without conscious thought.

Q. Is hypnosis the same as sleep?

A. Not at all. Hypnosis is a state of relaxed concentration and you are fully aware of your surroundings and everything that goes on. You are able to hear everything, speak and respond to questions, make choices , remember everything, and come out of hypnosis if you choose to do so.

Q. Can I be lost in hypnosis?

A. No. You will come out of the hypnotic state whenever you decide to exit the session because you are always in control.

HypnoBirthing

Q. When should I start classes?

A. Any time, even before you are pregnant, is the prefect time to start classes. Practice makes perfect so the longer you have to practice the relaxation and the breathing techniques and listen to the CDs the better you’ll be prepared to give birth to a HypnoBirthing baby.

Q. Will I still have a HypnoBirth if I end up needing interventions?

Q. Is HypnoBirthing for me if I need an intervention such as a C Section?

A. HypnoBirthing is good for all mothers and all babies. Your labor, regardless of if it’s a vaginal birth, a C Section, or a breech birth will be much easier than if you didn’t take HypnoBirthing classes. HypnoBirthing is a philosophy for life and you’ll find yourself relaxed and able to meet life’s challenges with quiet confidence after taking HypnoBirthing classes.

Q. Who should attend HypnoBirthing classes?

A. Both parents or mom and a partner or a birth companion. Grandparents and proffesional birth attendants such a doula or a mid wife are also welcome. It’s important for the mother to remember she has control over the number of people she allows into her birthing room.

Q. What if I don’t have a partner?

A. The only two people who are truely necessary is the mother and her baby. Mother and baby working together for a beautiful birth with mother listening to the prompts of her body and baby embarking on the birthing journey in the perfect time for her.

Q. How much does it cost?

A. Tuition is $350 for the five classes and all the material. However, your HBCE, (HypnoBirthingChildbirthEducator) is willing to work with you. Cost is never a reason not to take the classes. The health of you and your baby is far more important than financial considerations.

Q. I have fast labors. Will HypnoBirthing work for me?

A. Every birth is different. However, it sounds like your body already is comfortable with the birthing process. We know that short labors can be very intense, which is why Bakersfield HypnoBirthing classes are so great. You’ll learn to use self hypnosis to achieve deep relaxation so you’ll be able to experience your labor in comfort.

Q. I’m a Christian.  Is HypnoBirthing against my religion?

A. No.  The level of hypnosis, or relaxation, that HypnoBirthing teaches you to reach is the very same as the levels of hypnosis you pass through every day when you fall asleep or wake up.  All hypnosis is self-hypnosis.  No one will be exerting mind control over you to get you to do evil things.  Having been raised Christian myself, I believe that hypnosis is a wonderful tool given to us by God.  That said, if you do not feel comfortable with the idea of hypnosis and cannot get past that by viewing it as  the guided imagery and deep relaxation that it is, it will not work for you and you should find something else that will work for you.

Q. I have long labors. Will HypnoBirthing work for me?

A. Keep in mind each labor is unique. Labor is guided by several factors including genetics, your beliefs about birth, whether you perceive birth as normal and safe, or you are fearful, and your level of relaxation. HypnoBirthing classes will teach you how to release fears so you can reach a deep level of relaxation using self hypnosis. HypnoBirthing mothers often find their labor time reduced because of their relaxation and increased understanding of the working of their birthing bodies.
